Our Sacramento Story

Computer Repair Sacramento

By: , CEO and co-founder of Nerds On Call, an on-site computer and laptop repair service company.

In 2005, we already had two stores. We were about to open a third: Nerds On Call Computer Repair Sacramento Branch. But providing computer repair to a much bigger city posed some unique challenges. First it would be much more expensive to maintain a location. Ryan and Andrea Eldridge, the founders of Nerds On Call Computer Repair Sacramento, wanted to open a location in or around Carmichael, Fair Oaks, or Arden. After looking for a few weeks, they settled on the shop at 4315 Marconi Avenue, just next to Carmichael and Arden-Arcade.

After a few weeks of renovating the Sacramento location, Nerds On Call opened its doors. Before any computer repair could actually take place, Nerds On Call would need some Nerds to actually carry out the repair. After 200 interviews, they finally selected the first two Nerds in Sacramento. They were rigorously trained in virus removal, computer repair, laptop repair, and of course, courteous customer service.

Sadly, after a few weeks the hype surrounding the grand opening began to fade, and it seemed as if Nerds On Call was destined to become just another failed computer repair place in Sacramento. In a desperate move to try and attract customers, Nerds doubled their media advertising budget, but with no success. Customers in other cities had been so acquainted with Nerds that those cities spent barely any money on advertising, but computer repair seemed to be harder to sell in the big city of Sacramento.

Through perseverance, thankfully after a few months of trying, business began to pick up at the Sacramento store. It was not an overnight development – people didn’t suddenly wake up in the morning thinking “Gee, I really need computer repair,” but slowly the steam began to build up. The phone rang more, and internet requests started trickling in larger and larger numbers. Nerds On Call was busier than it had ever been.  What had ended up happening was that word of mouth from customers had begun to spread through the city. People who hadn’t needed their computer fixed at the time of the grand opening began to have problems with their computers, and heard from their friends that “this great new computer repair place” could fix their computer, and do so with a smile and a guarantee.

In fact, the Sacramento store grew to be so successful that it fueled the growth of the next five locations that Nerds established. Read their stories here. Nerds On Call is indebted to the people of Sacramento for helping to spread the word about them. We believe that good work and quality help will sell itself through the people who use it.

Today, Nerds On Call Computer Repair Sacramento is still thriving. Ryan regularly appears on Sacramento’s beloved Good Day Sacramento to provide helpful tech tips to the city Nerds has come to love. We have dedicated tablet and laptop repair specialists stationed in the city for that growing market. Nerd’s services hundreds upon hundreds of Sacramento computers every month and we hope to keep growing as we keep gaining the trust of all you out there in the city of Sacramento!
