Makeover that old computer for the school year, Part III: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
Malware is a form of malicious software designed to infiltrate a users computer without their knowledge. The most common type of Malware is referred to as “scareware“. As a computer repair company, we remove scareware, almost, on a daily basis. Scareware shows up on a computer in the guise of legitimate anti-virus software by popping up a warning that you have a serious infection. While in reality, what you see is the infection itself-the Malware trying to scare you into believing that you are under attack and the only way you can prevent it is to purchase their software. The catch? The software does not exist and if you pay for it, you get nothing out of it. That’s right, it is just a scam to get your credit card information.

After installing, it is very important to check for updates, just like you did with Spybot.
Once that is complete, it is time to run a system scan.
Hit “scan” and allow it about 30 to 40 minutes to complete the scan. If the program finds anything, it will give you the option to “remove selected items” and it will remove the infections. It may prompt you to restart your computer in order to remove them, so go ahead.
