Remember when you brought home that new bundle of life that you were so excited about? You unwrapped it carefully, proud parent that you were, and…plugged it in. We’re talking about your computer. But as time went on, it slowed like Highway 99 traffic in the mid-summer Fresno heat. Programs launched slower, it took forever to start up, and many of the things you loved about it just don’t seem as fanciful anymore. What you need is to tune-up your computer!

If you’ve fallen out of love with your computer and your interactions have been reduced to staring across the coffee table over a bowl of cereal and the morning newspaper, Nerds on Call can help you rekindle that spark that you once shared!  No matter how many times you say “it’s not you, it’s me,” we all know it really is your computer. It probably doesn’t even understand you –and viruses have taken their toll and old programs have bloated it almost beyond repair.  There is hope! Nerds On Call is experienced in breathing life back into relationships with computers – most of the time all it really just needs: a tune-up!

With our online support program, you probably won’t even have to leave your house to get your computer tuned-up! Most computer slowing is caused by software issues, which we can fix from our offices. You don’t have to leave your comfortable house, and our Nerds don’t have to step into the blinding light of day (it burns their skin). Everyone wins.

Common Terms

Startup Items

Every time your computer starts, the biggest piece of software it turns on is the operating system. However, the operating system loads a lot of other programs that it thinks you will use. These are called startup items and run every time you turn your computer on

Fragmentation

Files are stored on your disk in sections. Your hard drive does this to save space and speed, but over time gaps can appear and your hard drive takes longer to find the data on it. Disk fragmentation is an issue on older systems, but new computers automatically defragment themselves

Windows Registry

The system registry is where Windows stores all of the computer’s settings. Not just the settings you choose, but other things like the color of window shadows and the location of certain files.
