Fresno Nerds On Call Story: Sign Wavers and Bull Dogs

The year was 2007. Nerds On Call had already opened two stores that year: one in Vacaville and one in Stockton. We were looking at providing the computer repair Fresno needed, but didn’t know from what location to offer it. We scoured Fresno for the perfect place to build our Nerd base of operations.

Eventually we settled on Shaw Avenue – one of the busiest streets in the area. It would offer us the perfect place to be able to serve the people of Fresno in a place where they already were. Of course we’d offer home calls (it’s in our name after all), but in the event that someone needed to bring their computer in, we’d always be available in a convenient location.   With our central location, we were and still are able to offer service to the areas surrounding Fresno, like Clovis and others.

One of our advertising attempts in Fresno was to hire sign wavers to promote our services. You may have seen them briefly on Shaw Street, dancing, twirling and yes even skating. In the end it turned out that people who had computers that needed to be fixed were usually at home when they needed help – not out getting groceries.

As an interesting aside, one of the first customers that Nerds serviced was actually the head coach of the Fresno State Bull Dogs – Ryan Eldridge personally came out to his home and worked on his computer. Only the best for the best!

To date, the Nerds On Call store in Fresno services the second largest city out of the 14 cities we’re in. Only Portland has a larger population.

Andrea Eldridge, co-founder of Nerds On Call has appeared on TV on the show Central Valley Today with tips about computer repair Fresno can use. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCzBsq7jhtM.   She comments regularly on tech subjects, including topically relevant ones like Christmas gifts for Fresno kids. Now she dedicates more time to parenting, but can still be found from time to time on television. She still visits Fresno from time to time. When she’s not running around fixing computers, she enjoys the wide variety of malls in the city and occasionally visiting the delicious Cheesecake Factory.

Never fear!  We have another Fresno Nerd, Travis Tidwell, available to help you with your computer repairs.  He has also made an appearance on Fresno TV. In this case, Travis provided information for Fresnoians on how to escape the virulent DNS changer virus that was rearing its head at the time.

We’ve had a lot of fun in the past five years providing the computer repair Fresno needs, and we hope to be able to keep doing so for a long time to come. Thank you to Fresno for making these years wonderful! We’ll be here for you when you need us.
