USB PCI cards used to be the thing that people had put in their computers if they wanted to be able to plug in a lot of devices. Basically a USB card installs more ports for you to plug things into by using an expansion slot on your motherboard. This slot can be used for a number of things, including sound cards and other proprietary equipment for specialized computer users.

Sadly, USB cards have a number of problems. The first problem is that their functionality has been replaced by the more available, albeit slightly more cluttered technology of USB hubs. USB hubs are like power strips for USB devices. The second problem with them is that they take up one of your expansion slots. You may think this is not that big of a problem, but there are a number of reasons why it’s not the best solution. If you have extra slots, you’ll probably want to use them for something besides USB ports, and if you don’t need any special equipment, you don’t want your computer to be bigger than it has to be or take more power – USB hubs are just more efficient.

The final problem with USB cards is that since they’ve become outdated, they’ve stopped being supported by newer operating systems. This means that as your computer gets better, your USB card will hold it back, and in many cases cause system errors.

So if you have a USB hub that you don’t want anymore, or is giving you a hard time, you’ve got a few options. You could go into Fresno, buy a USB hub, and not use the card and hope the problem goes away – or you could open up your computer, take out the card and replace it with the hub. However, that takes a certain amount of care to make sure your computer doesn’t get broken.
