REDDING, Calif. (October 11, 2010) – When you think of NERDS-you probably picture thick glasses, chess champs, and computer wizards but Andrea Eldridge, President and Co-founder of Nerds On Call is here to change that stereotype. Never judge a NERD by its cover, with her bright smile and adventurous manner, this nerdy company president and new columnist brings a fresh perspective to tech talk…female, fun, and contemporary.
“I wouldn’t say I am an avid reader of technology columns, most of the content I’ve seen isn’t geared to my interests,” said Andrea Eldridge. “I wanted to create a place where women can read about tech and how it can make their lives easier, richer, and more fun. Women want information about gadgets, websites, and computers that applies to them, not another column about how to fix your computer or make it faster.”
Andrea, along with her sister Heather Neal, has created a joint column with a unique take on technology. From educating readers on social websites, Internet safety, and online entertainment to witty conversations about tech needs of all ages. “Conversations about computers and technology have always been between men. In today’s world women are using the computer more often for entertainment, research and keeping in touch with loved ones. At Nerds On Call the overwhelming majority of service calls, about 2,000 per week, are from women. The ladies are ignored when it comes to tech and yet, no husband in the world would buy a new HDTV without first asking his wife. Finally, there is a place where women, like me, can learn about this stuff without having to read a bunch of technical jargon.”
Andrea and her husband Ryan Eldridge built a company that provides on-site computer and electronics repair service for consumers and businesses. With just one ad in the local paper, and using Andrea’s cell phone number for contact, Nerds started with a bang! Nerds immediately booked Ryan out for three weeks on service calls. Andrea was tied to the cell phone 24/7 booking appointments, handling voice mails, and living on Hot Pockets while Ryan did in home repairs from 7 a.m. to midnight. Today, Nerds On Call boasts being one of the fastest growing private companies in America. It has been named to the Inc. 5000 list two years in a row, and has 13 locations throughout California, Oregon and Washington.
As President, Andrea oversees a staff of schedulers and technicians, as well as corporate finances. She is a mom and entrepreneur instrumental in the development of marketing campaigns and overall business strategy.
