Here in Portland we like our films. While so much is available on the internet these days, there is plenty that you can’t quite find online. For these you need your old CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive. Optical drives used to be all the rage, before the days of flash drive storage and internet speeds that could support high-speed transfer. Nowadays optical drives are beginning to be outdated, but they still serve their purposes.
You are probably well aware of this if you still have a collection of movies on DVD – the internet just doesn’t always cut it and it’s quite a pain to transfer completely from using optical discs. When you’re using your CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive and it encounters an error, it’s not the end of the world, but it’s still pretty frustrating. You could always go down to Portland and pick up another drive, but with SATA and PATA/IDE connections and Molex power adapters, it can still get pretty technical even with an older technology.
Here at Nerds On Call we’d love to help you with your optical drive! Whether you need a new one (they’re really not worth it to repair) or there’s another problem with it, we can tackle it. One of the problems that we see is when the disc becomes stuck in the drive. If you really need that disc, this is no good. The first thing you can try is using a paper clip to manually dislodge the tray. There’s a little hole on the drive specifically built for this purpose. If the disc is even further in than that, the entire drive assembly might need to be dismantled. We’ve done this plenty of times and are more than happy to help you keep your disc and drive functioning.
So if you’re ready to get your CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive back on its feet and spinning normally again, give your friendly and knowledgeable Portland Nerds a call!
