Tina: Lisa, our high-tech honey, is standing by with our resident nerd Ryan Eldridge with…

Lisa: Hi, honey.

Tina: …this season’s hottest tech gifts. You’re our high-tech honey over there.

Lisa: Why, thank you, thank you. You know I get so gitty around this high-tech stuff, right? So I always love when Ryan joins us from Nerds On Call. Great gift ideas…

Ryan: Yes.

Lisa: …for the folks who like this type of thing, right?

Ryan: Oh and who doesn’t love technology?

Lisa: I mean come on. Come on.

Ryan: Let’s start over here.

Lisa: Okay.

Ryan: This is gonna to seem kinda like, “Okay, seriously, I know it’s been out forever. It’s been out…

Lisa: Nintendo Wii. That’s a Nintendo?

Ryan: It’s a Nintendo Switch. Now, the cool thing about the Nintendo Switch is, right now it’s freakin available. It hasn’t been available for like almost the whole year. So, it’s finally available. It’s in stores right now. It’s $299.

Lisa: It’s so small.

Ryan: Yeah, you can play it like a handheld like this, or you can hook it up to your television and play it on your television with one of these little gadgets that turns it into a controller. So you use it like a regular thing.

Lisa: That’s awesome.

Ryan: And they’ve got the coolest game ever. Mario Odyssey is out right now. So this is $60 bucks. You can only play it on Nintendo. So you can play things like Zelda, Mario,…

Lisa: Wow.

Ryan: … all those Nintendo games, Mario Cart.

Lisa: Those old ones still very popular…

Ryan: Yeah, this is…

Lisa: …Super Mario Brothers is my favorite.

Ryan: This is the must-have gift for just about any child in the house.

Lisa: Okay, or adult?

Ryan: Yeah. Well, yeah. I mean, I’ve played it plenty. So this is the next thing. This is kind of cool. So you’ve seen Bluetooth speakers before?

Lisa: Yes.

Ryan: But check this one out. This one is totally wireless and battery, but it’s got a 360-degree speaker on it. It also is Alexa-enabled.

Lisa: Come on, hey.

Ryan: So you can walk around and talk to Alexa in the shower. “Hey, Alexa, what’s going on?” I don’t have it turned on right now, so, of course, it’s not working.

Lisa: Does it get loud?

Ryan: What’s that?

Lisa: Is that one a loud one?

Ryan: It is really loud.

Lisa: Good.

Ryan: We were playing around with it earlier, but unfortunately, we were having some technical difficulties. Well advised. Sorry about that. But anyway, you can also get an optional stand. The stand is $39. The speaker itself is $229. So it’s a little expensive, but can you really put a price on talking to Alexa in the shower?

Lisa: No, you can’t…

Ryan: I mean, come on. Let’s be real.

Lisa: …Actually, no.

Ryan: iPhone 10. If you got $1,000 bucks to blow, go for it.

Lisa: I’m so jealous of you right now.

Ryan: But you know what? If you don’t have $1,000 bucks, check this out. This is kind of a cheap little. This is a candle.

Lisa: Wait, is this the consolation prize…

Ryan: This is the one…

Lisa: …for the iPhone?

Ryan: I wasn’t gonna get you an iPhone, instead, I got you a candle. This is $25 bucks, but it’s supposed to smell like a new Mac. So you can…

Lisa: Let me be the judge of that.

Tina: Are you kidding me?

Together: No.

Ryan: Well, the company says…

Lisa: No, that is horrible. I mean, it smells great, but that’s a horrible joke.

Ryan: The company says that it is also scented to inspire you with new ideas. I don’t know.

Lisa: I smell limes.

Ryan: So if you do opt-in for the iPhone 10, then you’re gonna need a wireless charger.

Lisa: Yes.

Ryan: This is from Samsung.

Lisa: Okay.

Ryan: We got this from Verizon. It’s about $60 bucks. It’s pretty cool though. You could just set up your iPhone, set it right next to this thing, and it charges wirelessly next to your bed.

Lisa: Interesting.

Ryan: Very cool.

Lisa: Okay.

Ryan: And the last but not least, everybody needs a little extra power.

Lisa: Yes.

Ryan: This is from Mophie Excel[SP]. You can plug in your iPad, your iPhone, just about anything. It’ll give you 48 hours of charge for your iPhone. So that’s gonna…

Lisa: That’s with Loonie[SP]. Totally.

Ryan: And of course, if you’re like Courtney and you have an Android. You might be able to get it to work. I just don’t know.

Lisa: I mean, you know…

Ryan: Those Androids, you gotta convince them to work.

Lisa: Exactly. I tried telling her this all the time. Oh, my goodness. All right, great ideas for everyone on your gadget list there. We got more ideas coming up later on this morning…

Ryan: Oh, yes.

Lisa: …so stick around. We’ll be back with Ryan coming up in a few minutes. Back over to you.

Man: All right. Nerd alert.

Lisa: Nerd alert.

Do you have a gadget-addicted friend or family member on your holiday shopping list?

Not sure what they’d love?

We’ve compiled some of the hottest tech gifts and gadgets for this holiday season. You’re sure to find something for every type of gadget freak in your life.

The Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch ($300 per console) has dominated almost every “best of 2017” list.

Although the console has been available for nearly a year, it’s been impossible to get one until recently. Fortunately, stock is in and you should be able to get one by Christmas

Not sure what the Switch is or what it does?

Well, it provides a pretty unique experience.

You can use it as a traditional console by hooking it up to your TV to play games or take it out of its cradle and use it as a handheld gaming powerhouse.

The device is completely versatile to adapt to any individual’s playing style.

For example, the Joy-Con controllers also work in tablet mode whether you’re playing solo or head-to-head in two-player mode.

Already have a Switch?

Consider buying the hottest game of the season – Super Mario Odyssey.

I’ve been a Nintendo addict since its early days and I can safely say that Super Mario Odyssey is fantastic and well worth the $60 price tag.

It’ll provide hours of entertainment for everyone in the family.

If you’re the “collector” type like me, there are hundreds of mini-games and challenges for you to revel in.

If you’re more an “explorer” like my son, you can just run around and explore all there is to see.

It’s safe to say that if there’s a Mario-phile in your life, they’re going to love Super Mario Odyssey.

Other games that offer hours of entertainment include Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild, Just Dance 2017 (or 2018), and Mario Kart 8.

Ultimate Ears BLAST Alexa-enabled Speaker

You will definitely see the Amazon Echo (or the Echo Dot) on every must-have list.

Don’t get us wrong: it’s a great product.

We have several ourselves!

But sometimes, you want to bring your tunes to another room – or to the pool – without having to invest in multiple Echos (which are $100 a piece and stationary).

The Ultimate Ears Blast Alexa-enabled speaker solves this problem.

For $230, you get a portable, wireless, and waterproof speaker that connects with your WiFi.

Simply enable the Alexa hands-free voice-control option and you can stream your favorite tunes from any source.

Take it on your next bike ride to the park (it’s drop proof), play it in your shower, or place it in the sand at your next beach party.

The battery is guaranteed to last 12 hours and when you’re ready to charge, the optional Power UP Charging Dock (extra $40) allows you to charge while listening simultaneously.

Samsung Fast Charge Wireless Charging Stand

In a world where everything is going wireless, charging mats and stands will soon be a must-have accessory.

That means that the Samsung Fast Charge Wireless Charging Stand is a great gift for $59.99.

It comes in 4 colors and charges any Qi-enabled device.

Compatible Samsung devices (Galaxy series) charge 1.4x faster with this charger over conventional wireless charging transmitters.

If you don’t have a compatible Samsung device, worry not.

Your device will will still charge at the normal speed.

The beauty of this device is in its ease of use. All you have to do is drop your phone into the stand and it’ll automatically start charging.

Unlike other charging pads, this one props your phone at a convenient angle so that you can still use it while it’s charging.

iPhone X

In fall of 2017, Apple announced the iPhone X to the joy of every Apple lover.

The new phone comes packed with features like edge-to-edge glass on the front and back, facial recognition software, and wireless charging.

Apple also announced a brand new smartwatch in its series.

The Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular acts like a smartphone on your wrist. You can use it to make calls, send texts, stream music, and access apps.

You can even leave your phone back at home and never miss a call or text.

It’s waterproof and has all the bells and whistles of your Fitbit tracker built in.

You’ll have to pony up $400 for the watch and pay an extra $20/month (or thereabouts) on your current cellular plan if you plan to use the watch’s cellular features.

If you’re going with the new iPhone X, it’ll set you back about $1000, or about $50/month through your cell provider’s contract.

Can’t afford new Apple products this year? We can’t either!
Instead of bankrupting yourself, get the Apple devotee in your life that “new Mac” smell with the Inspire Mac candle N⁰2.

Those in the market for a fitness tracker are sure to love Fitbit’s Alta HR Fitness Tracker.

Its sleek design makes it less intrusive than other tracker watches but packs the same level of functionality.

Bose SoundSport Wireless Headphones

As more devices do away with the AUX jack, wireless headphones make an ideal gift.

Bose’s SoundSport Wireless Headphones are a great choice for $129.

These headphones are designed for the music-lover in your life.

My hubby loves listening to audiobooks while he’s working around the house and he never has to worry about tripping up on his wires.
